Review Apple iPhone 5S 16GB

Advantages: stylish, touch ID 

Disadvantages: Does not support JAVA 

My introduction to the product

It was time for an upgrade and I pondered the different models and options out there. I really liked the new iphone 5 so I decided to hold on a few months for the iphone 5s. I liked the idea of a finger print sensor and I really wanted the latest model. I know some people think it is a bit cheeky keeping the same design for the new models, but if it’s not broke, why fix it. The iphone 5 is a good style so the 5S are already on to a winner. I really wanted this in gold as this would mark it as decisively different to the iphone 5, however this was massively out of stock so I went for the white one. It looks great nonetheless!

Description

The phone is slim with a white gloss background and a pale grey back. The whole is slim with angled corners and glass on the screen goes all the way to the edge. The white glossy front is shiny and attractive. The screen is huge and it is brilliant quality. The colours are so sharp and bright, honestly watching anything from home videos to music videos on here is really impressive. Below the screen is the home screen. This is the same as on all the other iphone products, but it incorporates fingerprint ID and there is something just marvellous about this. 

The top of the screen has a little camera which looks like a small black dot. There is also a microphone and a speaker. At the bottom of the phone are two large speakers that provide really loud sounds. The sound quality through these is brilliant. I have played a catchy new song to a whole gym class through here and everyone could hear it. It was so loud and clear. At the bottom is where you charge the iphone from and this takes the new style charger, not the old one. This means that the charger for my ipad can not be used with this one. At the side of the iphone there is a switch to flick it to silent. There is also the volume toggle controls.

The phone looks swell, really stylish and attractive and looks are not only the advantages of this phone. The new phone runs on IOS7. If you are familiar with the old IOS systems then you may not like this one but I like it. All the icons are bigger, bolder and it just looks much fresher. I find it easy to find my apps and icons but the one thing about this that I do not like is how webpages are displayed in a sort of file, It looks very confusing. 

The phone has a really excellent camera, well in fact it has two a front one which is brilliant for Facetime. Facetime is where you can video call your friend and family who use Iphones, ipods and ipads for free on Wifi. It is a great way to keep in touch and catch a glimpse of a loved one where usually you would just have to put up with hearing their voice. The front camera is not as good as the rear and the rear is excellent. You can zoom in and out, there is a flash and you can put filters on the images so you can create a dramatic black and white picture, a retro looking one, a sepia one and so on. There is a lot of scope to develop your Iphone-ography. The camera also loads the pictures in a cool library which can put the images in date order, place order or just in a stream. This is really cool and with Apple Itunes you can back up your old images and transfer them over. I have images on here from 2010 and it is lovely having access to all my pictures. The new thing with this phone is that you can take panoramic pictures, you can take a series of images and the phone stitches them together. Very fun, especially where you see a beautiful landscape.

The phone has all the apps loaded on that we are familiar with such as clock, calculator and weather and the stable apps of phoning and texting. Using the phone for texting is good and now you can use Siri to dicate your messages. Siri is really cool and if you press and hold the home screen you can use it to dictate a message or email. I am really surprised at how accurate Siri can be, honestly the only thing I can not get is putting kisses at the end of messages. Texts are displayed in a conversation history and you can also search your messages. The phone book is good as you can have photographs of your contacts and store a lot of information about them. 

The phone is very compatible with social media and if you enjoy using facebook, you will enjoy being able to take a photograph and put it straight on Facebook. This is fun and if you enjoy using it then the bonus of not having to log onto a computer is a big advantage. The fact that the camera is so good too really makes me think cheap point and shoot cameras will not be as popular in a few years. The iphone has the itunes store and app store as standard and you can download anything you want. Itunes allows you to download videos and music straight to your phone. The app store allows you to download various games, tools and fun little features to live your life more to the full.

The new feature for the phone 5s is the Touch ID. This is a finger print sensor and you place your finger on the home button and it automatically detects your print and opens the phone. This is much easier than having to put your 4 digit pin in and it is just so futuristic and fun. Your finger print can also be used as your Itunes password. This is great if yuo have children and you don’t want them downloading stuff without you knowing! This is a brilliant feature and I expect IOS8 when it comes to make much more of it.

Spec

Above is my opinion and you will notice that it is totally none technical. I am here to give my honest opinion and I am an average phone user. I am aware that it has a new A7 chip but this does not mean anything to me. What I can tell you though, is that phone handles well, it feels fast and it is very responsive. I think it is important to know the specification though so below is a quick summary.

In use

Goodness me this is such a wonderful toy to use and I am so glad I waited for the new model. It has everything that I want from a phone, but it does take over my life. The fast internet means that at the drop of a hat I can check facts and figures or watch youtube videos. I can record movies, take pictures and use Siri to send text messages. I have my phone in a lovely case as I am aware that the glass scratches so easily and I want it to look this good till I sell it! I love the look of the phone and it is really easy to use. Phone calls are clear and easy to make and text messages are quick to type with the on screen keyboard. I a finding the battery to last as long as it does in the spec, so this is going quite well at the minute. I am aware that the ipohne batteries start to die faster over use but as I have only had it for a short spell, it seems to be holding the charge well.

Conclusion

This is a good phone and it is on the market for £600. I bought mine as part of contact and I have to pay £45 for the next 24 months! It is worth it though, it is probably better than my Ipad now; it certainly feels faster. The large screen is excellent, the quality of the colours and the depth is superb. I can completely recommend this, you get a lot of support from Apple too, if you do not know how to use it or you are struggling then you can take a master class in store. You also get a 12 month warranty. It really should be two years but hey ho!
